EEAP Coalition hosts first community event at Denny Moe’s Superstar Barber Shop in Harlem

On May 21, 2022, the EEAP Coalition hosted its first community events and panels called “Barbershop and Beauty Shop Conversations” to raise additional awareness and support for Black Studies.

The panel, “Shaping More Than Minds A Conversation about Black Boys and Black Education,” took place at Denny Moe’s Superstar Barber Shop, where acclaimed author and political commentator Bakari Sellers, EEAP Coalition Leader Dr. Shango Blake, and education activists Jose Vilson and George Patterson discussed Black boys and the need for Black Studies in public schools.

The open community event featured live DJs, free food, and giveaways, including a book by Bakari Sellers titled “Who are your people.”

The EEAP Coalition comprises United Way of New York City, The Black Educations Research Collective at Columbia Teachers College, Association of Black Educators New York, Black-Eduflencers, and Eagle Academy Foundation.
